President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday said he lived daily in grief and worry.
Buhari disclosed that he lived in daily grief and worry over victims of terrorists attacks in Nigeria.
He disclosed this during his morning nationwide broadcast to mark this year’s Democracy Day.
The president noted that Nigeria can only be safe if citizens prevent crime.
He assured that his administration in collaboration with security men are working hard to tackle insecurity.
According to Buhari: “We can only have a safe country if we are able to prevent crime not after the crime has been committed.
“On this special day, I want us all to put all victims of terrorist activities in our thoughts and prayers. I am living daily with the grief and worry for all those victims and prisoners of terrorism and kidnapping.
“I and the security agencies are doing all we can to free those unfortunate countrymen and countrywomen safely.
“For those who have lost their lives, we will continue to seek justice for their families against the perpetrators. For those currently in captivity, we will not stop until they are freed, and their kidnappers are brought to justice.
“If we all unite, we will be victorious against these agents of terror and destruction.”

In his speech on Sunday morning to mark the 2022 Democracy Day, Buhari assured Nigerians that efforts were on top gear to ensure that the victims were freed safely.
He said, “On this special day, I want us to put all victims of terrorist activities in the country in our thoughts and prayers. I am living daily with the grief and worry for all those victims and prisoners of terrorism and kidnapping.
“I and the security agencies are doing all we can to free those unfortunate countrymen and countrywomen safely.”
President Buhari vowed that his government would seek justice for families of those who have lost their lives in different attacks in the country, saying the perpetrators would be made to face the wrath of the law.
“For those who have lost their lives, we will continue to seek justice for their families against the perpetrators.
“For those currently in captivity, we will not stop until they are freed, and their kidnappers are brought to justice. If we all unite, we will be victorious against these agents of terror and destruction”, he added.
On the party primary elections recently conducted across the nation, President Buhari said he “was very impressed to see across all the political parties that most candidates ran issue-based campaigns”, stressing that issues that emerged during the processes were all controlled.
He called on various party candidates to ensure that they were mature in their campaign and other activities towards the forthcoming 2023 general election.
He said, “As we move into the general election campaign season, we must sustain this mature attitude to campaigning and ultimately, voting.

Akwa Ibom State Government has given a six-month ultimatum to owners of land in designated estates to commence building activities as contained in their allocation letters or risk revocation of the agreement.
The designated estates include, Government Residential Estate (GRA) Nung Ette, GRA, Iba Oku and GRA, Ikot Oduot, Ibesikpo. Others are GRA, Nung Oku, commercial estate, Atan Offot and Employment Centre/Light industries.
The Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Iniobong Ekong, who gave the hint in a statement issued in Uyo, stated that measures have been taken to encourage plot owners to commence immediate development of their plots.
According to the statement, activities being undertaken were; opening of internal roads and mounting of electric poles within the estates as well as fencing and water reticulation in some of the estates.
The commissioner urged plot owners to reciprocate government gestures by taking advantage of the move to commence building activities as soon as possible.
He added, “But, failure to comply with the directive within six months might lead to the revocation of allocation earlier as contained in the letters of allocation.”
Also, the commissioner warned persons involved in illegal acquisition of land to desist or risk punitive measures, as the state government was moving to check the menace of land-grabbing in the state.
The commissioner gave the warning during a courtesy call on the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Amiengheme Andrew at the state police headquarter and the State Director of State Services Department.
He mentioned that the visits were part of the ministry’s mandate in ensuring zero tolerance to illegal land grabbing and other crimes related to land and water.
